Loading Dock Gates

Loading Dock Gates - Manual Closing Swing Gates

Loading dock gates are essential if you have a warehouse or facility where goods and equipment are delivered through the rear of a flatbed truck. Without a gate, you leave yourself and your business open to many liability issues. These issues include employees becoming injured due to slipping and falling over the open ledge, or even trucks backing in when they do not have the necessary clearance. Beyond this, it's required by state and federal law for you to have very specific security fencing and gates around certain openings. With the help of TC Safety Supply, you will have the right gate installed that not only meets all OSHA standards, but also gives you the security and safety needs your business requires.

  • There are three different general styles associated with loading dock gates. These three different loading dock gate styles include:
  • Manual Close Swing Gates
  • Cantilever Gates
  • Self-Closing Swing Gates

It is up to you to determine what sort of gates are going to work for your business and what might improve the overall functionality of your loading dock gates. To do this, you need to look at all of the different gates and what features the gates are able to offer you.

These three different specific gate types are broken down further into micro categories. Knowing about each category is going to give you the insights that you need.

First, there are manual swing gates. A manual swing gate is exactly what it sounds. You need to lift the gate and open it manually. This is the least expensive option out there, and is a nice feature to have with a smaller loading dock. Beyond this, there are industrial manual swing gates. The industrial manual swing gate is still manually opened, but it is more heavy duty and increases the security of your loading dock.

Cantilever gate kits are the second available option. These gates are easier to close, which is nice especially for heavier gates. These gates are broken down into two categories, including a single opening kit and a split opening kit, for larger openings.

Lastly, there are self-closing swing gates. These gates are great for industrial-sized areas that need heavy gates that put too much stress on either you or a cantilever design. These use a railing system that add strength, ensuring the entire mechanism is properly opened and closed.
